What can we do with my staffing struggles?
There are a few ways we can address staffing shortages!
We are going to outline what the best practices are for when you are missing members from your team (INCLUDING CNAs, PCTs, BHTs, etc). We have our NYSNA staffing contractual staffing enforcement process but there are a few.
If you are short staffed, we are asking you to fill out the following items:
NYSNA Protest of Assignment form
Montefiore Clinical Staffing Complaint form
NYS DOH Staffing Complaint form
Midas Reports
Find the numbers for your unit within the NYS Staffing Plan by pressing the button below!
1 - NYSNA Protest of Assignments
We have an entire page dedicated to filling out the POAs (generic PDFs, unit specific POAs, how to fill them out guides including samples, etc) - PLEASE GO READ IT https://www.montefiorenysnanurses.com/protest-of-assignments
POAs can be filled out even if you are at ratio but are lacking your support staff. The DOH staffing plans outlines the minimum number of CNAs/PCTs that should be on each shift. Your workload is exponentially higher without your teammates on the floor - that matters!
2 - Montefiore Clinical Staffing Complaint form
Montefiore has a Clinical Staffing Committee which is required by the NYS Safe Staffing Law.
Attended by members of the NYSNA EC, 1199, and management.
Most of these meetings are spent discussing details to create the next NYS DOH Staffing Plan (due by July 1st to NYS)
We are supposed to be able to bring forward and discuss staffing issues in this forum.
We recently learned there is an easy way to file complaints with this committee! We were told there was only ONE complaint filed and we pointed out that it was most likely because no one knew about!
This would be another avenue for filing staffing complaints about your support staff. If you’re missing your CNAs/PCTs/BHTs and/or secretaries, this would be where you should report the staffing shortages.
3 -NYS DOH Staffing Complaint form
CSRU Hospital Clinical Staffing Complaint Form = https://apps.health.ny.gov/pubpal/builder/survey/hospital-clinical-staffing-compl
We have staffing numbers on our DOH Staffing Plans that are the minimum levels required per shift. If you are not staffed at those minimum levels, please bring a complaint here as well!
Technically, the form asks you take the complaint to the hospital’s staffing committee first (which is #2 above), but we don’t control your actions haha.
4 - Midas Reports
You all know what they are. Being short staffed IS a safety issue.
