4/10/2026 Labor Management & Health and Safety Meeting
Location: Weiler Auditorium & Zoom
Time: 8am prep
Generally, this meeting is held the second Friday of the month and we alternate between in person and virtual meetings.
Our first labor management since our return and management was worse than expected…
Back from the strike, our first labor-management meeting was exactly like our experience during negotiations. Of our 12 agenda items, we were only able to present on five topics. After only an hour of meeting, management got up and walked out. They have been trying to limit our labor-management meetings from the two hours that we have historically met for to now only one hour. This shows the disrespect they have towards the nurses and the lack of urgency around addressing our issues.
Of the few things we did discuss, we talked about the inhumane practice of denying bereavement time to one of our nurses who had time scheduled during the strike, and they have refused to reschedule that time despite strong past practices about this. Bereavement time does NOT have to happen only at the time of a family member's death. It can be taken within a reasonable amount of time after the occurrence of the event.
Then, we talked about the CMO rep cycle and the change in workflow. Since coming back from the strike, they have been taking work away from them. Even as of our last PPC meeting, they promised a meeting to address this, and we have yet to get an answer.
Very importantly, we talked about the global payroll issues. Nurses' OT in one unit is not being paid, and tuition reimbursement has not been honored. There are several tickets being filed, and members are not hearing any responses. The EC lambasted management’s new system and demanded timely responses to people’s pay. Management had no response when questioned why they are making nurses wait until the following pay periods to receive their full pay. Shocker
We had the Maternal Fetal Assessment Department share about how the charge role and pay were taken away from the department post-strike. Management said they would need to look into it and will get back to us.
Next, we discussed the new Surgical ICU at Moses. First, we got updates about the operations of the new unit and when they plan to open. The Department of Health will survey the unit next week, and in the middle of May, patients will be admitted. Nurses were concerned about getting additional training and demanded a list of the kinds of patients that are appropriate for their unit.
Things that we did NOT discuss due to management walking out in front of nurses:
Management’s failure to address improved ratios following our strike.
Investigating the status of vacancies in various departments, and their overall failure to post positions. Is this due to a hiring freeze? We don’t know, because management left.
11 North's lack of staff.
Weiler ED and WSQ issues: staffing, triage nurses, and OT.
Moses Parking Lot follow-up.
An update on the unit position alerts that were part of our new negotiated contract.
Retiree Health Glitch.
Sick time buy-back.
Implementation of our VEBA.
Despite our frustration over not having our report in a timely manner, we endured through management’s health and safety presentation. They gave an update on the Plexiglass project at the new MECCMH and the new sprinkler process. We demanded an opportunity for nurses who work at the MECCMH to have a say in the placement of the plexiglass. Time and time again management implements decisions without frontline worker input and it fails them everytime!
We are not going to just sit and have management walk out on us without consequences. We are going to escalate actions to push back against management's disrespect and demand our full two-hour-long meeting that meaningfully addresses the issues facing nurses. Those issues that were not covered today will be scheduled for offline meetings in the future. Stay tuned for updates on how you can participate in pushing back against management.
