FAQs about Strike Authorization
The Strike Authorization Voting process will be open from December 6 to December 19.
I already did the strike pledge, is this strike vote the same thing?
The pledge cards were an assessment of our membership but this is the official vote. A YES vote gives the negotiating committee the right to provide a 10-day notice for a strike if necessary.
What is a strike authorization?
A strike authorization is our formal way to show Monte that we are willing to do whatever it takes to get a fair contract. It’s how we get the boss to start negotiating seriously.
What is Monte doing behind the scenes?
Montefiore has been sending their nursing updates painting their narrative which makes it seem like we are at two different bargaining sessions.
Managers are also working hard to limit union representatives on units. You’ll find a manager lingering around the corner if you see one of your reps..
Is a strike legal??
Yes! We are protected by the first amendment and federal labor law.
How long is the strike?
We would have an open-ended strike which means we stay on strike until we have a new contract.
What if I have more questions?
Reach out to your local NYSNA staff representative, Executive Committee Member, or a delegate on your unit! We also have Contract Action Team Members throughout the facility to help connect us all. There are Strike Manuals with more FAQs. (The Strike Manual can also be found in the bargaining updates as well).
What if I can’t make it to the polling sites to vote?
There will be an online option at the end of the voting window that will be specific to those who request the option. More information to come !
If management was serious about these negotiations, they would respond to our proposals to address:
Safe staffing, including acuity-based ratios and break nurses
Workplace violence protections
ED overcrowding and hallway beds
Fair pay and benefits to recruit and retain nurses
APRN rights- We want fair recognition and equal treatment for our APRNs.
Home Health - HHA members are fighting for increased safety. We also seek to memorialize the Nurse Family Partnership program we fought to save from cuts.
