Montefiore Nurses Speak Out and Sticker Up to Tell Management: Bronx Patients Deserve Better!
(Email Update October 20, 2025)
NYSNA nurses at Montefiore have been showing up strong in contract negotiations, bringing comprehensive proposals to the bargaining table to improve patient care. Meanwhile, Montefiore management’s approach to negotiations includes showing up without prepared counterproposals and dismissing nurses’ input to what they deem to be ‘business decisions’ about how care is delivered to the Bronx community, including decisions about changes to the units where nurses work and take care of patients every day. But NYSNA nurses remain steadfast and argue that nurses should have a say in the decisions that affect patients and nurses’ working conditions!
In their last bargaining session, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, nurses presented their proposals for acuity-based staffing ratios, to eliminate hallway beds and to finally address the overcrowding in their emergency department. Over 40 nurses spoke in support of their proposal, with some offering heartfelt testimony about the impact these issues have on the quality of care nurses provide patients. The day after their strong showing at negotiations, Montefiore nurses organized a sticker campaign with hundreds of members coming to work wearing “Bronx Patients Deserve Better” stickers to remind management that they are not slowing down in their advocacy to win the contract that nurses and patients deserve!
